Personal & Professional Development III

Vak
2019-2020

Entry requirements

Third year students of the Honours College FSW programme, Science & Society track, having successfully finished PPD II

Introduction

This year, we will gauge how your current state of personal and interpersonal competences relates to your motives, passion and mission. This builds on the work you did during previous HC years in the Personal & Professional Purpose seminars. This year you will again take part in two PPD seminars (called III Start and III Finish) starting and ending your last Ba HC academic year. We again use the flipped-classroom approach, where much of the work will take place outside the meetings.

Preparatory assignment III Start
Two weeks before the PPD III Start seminar, you will carry out a reflective assignment. Part will focus on the harvest of your personal learning (summer) question, another part on how the choices in your BA and HC programme have worked out so far in relation to your own future self-image and core purpose definitions.

Seminar III Start
During the Start seminar, we will (re)visit your earlier and current motivations and ideas on your professional development. You will review assessments of your competences, draw up the outline for what you still want to learn in the final stretch and we will simulate you to commit to a specific, focused personal or professional goal this last Ba year.

Integrative assignment III Start
After the seminar, you will anchor your commitment for this last Ba year in a brief integrative assignment.

Preparatory assignment III Finish
In preparing PPD III Finish seminar, you will review your progress since you started your Ba and HC career and look back at the commitment you made in PPD III Start.

Seminar III Finish
This being our last PPD seminar you will, as it were, ‘pack your backpack’ for the future beyond your current Ba studies. We will help you create a viable image of your future and also address the subject of choosing, fear on missing out, taking wrong turns etc.

Integrative assignment III Finish
Packing the stuff you learned these years in such a way that you can easily carry it with you on your journeys to come.

Learning objectives

At successful completion of this PPDIII, you will: • Have obtained more detailed insight into the paths you have followed and the learning path you want to project into the future. • Be able to motivate your direction of choice amongst the diversity of possibilities available. • Have a clear image, and be able to make a commitment to the future path you prefer.

Mode of instruction

In this course, a substantial part of the time investment and study takes place before and after the meetings. Preparatory assignments (pre-seminar) and integrative ones (post-seminar) are part of the compulsory tasks. Be aware preparation is already required two weeks before the first seminar.
