Course Description

When building bridges between science and society, academic language does not suffice. In the media course that was designed for the Honours College FSW, you will learn to present complicated content in journalistic genres aimed at a wider audience.
In this course, you will select topics that are related to your theme. You will explore a variety of journalistic genres by writing an opinion article, an online news item, an interview and a background story. You are offered the possibility to develop your interviewing skills and contribute to editing your peers’ background stories. You will get an introduction in the use of photographs and images. You will practice integrating written language and visuals by setting up a weblog.

The media course adds a number of important skills to your competencies as Honours student: observing carefully and listen critically, choosing an interesting and creative angle for your story, telling a story in a clear and compelling way – keeping in mind the perspective of your audience. You also train in providing systematic feedback on your peers’ writing products.
