Admission requirements
MSc International Relations and Diplomacy students.
Description
The alternative internship module will be conducted in the Institute of Security and Global Affairs, which is ‘working in the domain of international relations, international organisation or diplomacy’. It is an alternative to the regular internship module and a response to the restrictions students are facing due to COVID-19.
The internship will be conducted during the fourth block of the first year of the MIRD programme; the minimum requirement is 10 weeks (full time).
Course objectives
The alternative internship aims to familiarise students with the work of an institute that is conducting activities in the domain of international relations or diplomacy.
The alternative internship will focus on the theme of institutional responses to COVID-19 (with a focus on women and children).
The ‘alternative internship’ will allow students to build their professional networks and partially learn more about possible career paths (as the focus of their work will be on international and non-governmental organisations); the skills required to get into the job market or the ‘test driving’ are somewhat less easy to be incorporated into this alternative, but we will offer direct links to e.g. job openings of the respective organisations and have students study the requirements to be accepted into such institutions.
Timetable
On the right-hand side of the programme front page of the E-Prospectus you will find a link to the online timetables.
Mode of instruction
Students actively engage with the work of ISGA as an entity of FGGA by conducting the alternative internship. For the practical part of the MIRD internship, the following documents have to be drawn up:
Internship agreement between the student, University and the receiving organisation
Internship plan between the student and the University
Internship report
Assessment form by the internship supervisor.
Assessment method
The alternative internship (10ECTS) is graded as pass/fail, based on an assessment of the internship organisation supervisor (pass/fail) and your internship report (pass/fail).
The following documents need to be submitted:
Assessment form: written by the internship supervisor of the internship organisation.
Internship report: This report is approximately 1500 words in length.
The internship report consists of the following elements:
Description of the internship, i.e. the type and aims of the organisation worked for, the various activities the internship entailed, and the relevance of these activities for the work of the organisation at large;
Reflection on the internship in light of the academic study of international relations and diplomacy.
Details for submitting papers (deadlines) are posted on Brightspace. If you fail to submit all of the required internship documents, you will fail the course. You can redo the course by submitting by February 25 2022.
