Admission requirements

Analyse 1na and analyse 2na (differential and integrale calculus). Lineaire algebra 1na (definitie van een vectorruimte, operatoren).


This course treats topics from mathematical analysis which are of importance for physics and astronomy, focussing on the following main themes:

  • complex analysis

  • power series expansions

  • Fourier series

  • Fourier transform

  • ordinary differential equations

  • partial differential equations

  • Sturm-Liouville theory

  • special functions

Assessment method

Midterm test (optional), final exam, assignments.
As the midterm takes place during the week between blocks, there is a grading scheme both with the midterm and without the midterm.

We'll be using the very excellent notes by the previous instructor, to be made available on Brightspace.
