Students learn to produce, recognize, transcribe, and analyze speech sounds during the lectures and the practice sessions. They will be confronted with speech sounds they are familiar with and with speech sounds they are less familiar with among consonants, vowels and tone.
The course consists of a one hour lecture (held twice, once in English, once in Dutch) followed by a one hour practice session where students learn how to produce the speech sounds. The course is supported by a custom-made digital course helping the students to recognize and to describe speech sounds.
The course has four main objectives:

learning to transcribe speech sounds according to the alphabet op the IPA (International Phonetics Association)
