Description
In this course we will examines African networks, diasporas, international relations, and connectivity. We will do so from the early twentieth century to the present and draw on a range of disciplines, such as history, international relations, economics, migration, representation/arts, anthropology.
The course will address three types of networks: it will look at networks within Africa, African networks in the world as well as how the world interacted in Africa.
It will examine several themes that draw out these connections in particular such as politics, economics, development and infrastructure, diaspora and migration, security, arts and representation.
Course objectives
After completing this course students will
Have knowledge and insight into the (post) modern history of Africa, its networks, diaspora, international relations, and connectivity within Africa and in the wider world
be able to organise and use large amounts of information
be able to reflect critically on knowledge and understanding as presented in academic literature
have gained insights into how various disciplines approach the topics of the course

Midterm paper: 30 %

Resit
the final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average
The resit exam will take place in one single resit, at which both subtests are offered.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
