Admission requirements
This course is only accessible for BA Japanstudies students. Students must have successfully completed the course Applied Linguistics IIa: Conversation & listening skills.
This course follow the Production IIb course in block 3 and is only accessible to students following the regular programme in Leiden in block 4, instead of going to Japan.
Description
The primary goal of this course is to further improve communication skills for having practical conversations, including the ability to manage speech level properly, as well as for stating opinions, giving explanations/short speeches, and listening skills for picking up various types of information. The course content will focus on general knowledge, such as grammar and (kanji) vocabulary necessary for communication at an intermediate level, reviewing the contents of the pre-intermediate level. This course will cover some selected chapters and materials in the Tobira textbook.
Course objectives
At the end of the course, students will be expected to perform sufficiently in speaking and listening skills at a basic level of proficiency, which is equivalent to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR). Tobira is a content-based textbook which provides content that satisfies students’ interest while at the same time cultivating their knowledge, thereby easing the transition into a higher level of Japanese proficiency.

The final grade is established by determining the weighted average of all elements. In order to pass the course, all elements must receive a passing grade (6 or higher).

Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
