Description
The Honours College conference marks the zenith of the Science, Society and Self track. The conference provides students the opportunity to share their message to the world. At the conference, the students present a message to the world that stems from their own passion and mission, and that builds upon the knowledge and insights they have generated during their Honours trajectory. Students present their message in the form of a mini–TED Talk of 3 minutes each.
Students will be prepared for this during the workshop How to Present Your TED Talk, where they explore diverse ways to speak powerfully and responsibly to the world.
Please note that the annual conference of the Honours College track Science, Society and Self is not the same as the conference organized by the Honours Academy.
Course objectives
Through this course, we strive to achieve that students are able to:
reflect on the insights they obtained during the Honours College trajectory
construct a thoughtful and clear message from the insights they obtained during the Honours College trajectory
present their message to a large audience in an inspiring TED Talk format
Mode of instruction
Students are expected to invest approximately 28 hours for this 1 ECTS course by:
attending and preparing the workshop How to Present Your TED Talk: 6 hours
constructing a mini-TED Talk: 18 hours
attending the conference: 4 hours
Assessment method
The student passes this course upon the attendance of the workshop How to Present Your TED Talk and the conference as well as presenting a successful mini-TED Talk.
Language
Students must give their TED Talk in English.

Admission requirements
This course is mandatory for students in their third year of the Honours College Science, Society and Self track.
