Master Colloquium

Course
2023-2024

Admission requirements

None

Description

This weekly colloquium is recommended for all first-year Master’s students and consists of a two-hour meeting each week. The first hour will usually be dedicated to a talk or presentation, and the second hour to informal discussion. It also provides a forum for students to discuss their other courses and the broader study programme. The focus in the first semester will be on giving an introduction to the programme and an overview of possible directions for study within mathematics; in the second semester some time will be dedicated to further study and career options within academia and outside.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, students will have an understanding of the structure of the Master’s programme in Mathematics and an overview of the different subject areas represented within the Mathematics Institute. They will be aware of possible future career directions after completing a Master’s degree, both within and outside academia, and have the skills to find out about and apply for such positions.

Registration

From the academic year 2022-2023 on every student has to register for courses with the new enrollment tool MyStudyMap. There are two registration periods per year: registration for the fall semester opens in July and registration for the spring semester opens in December. Please see this page for more information.

Please note that it is compulsory to both preregister and confirm your participation for every exam and retake. Not being registered for a course means that you are not allowed to participate in the final exam of the course. Confirming your exam participation is possible until ten days before the exam.
