The number of ECTS will be between 40-46
In order to achieve the objectives students familiarize themselves with the existing knowledge in the field to which the research questions of this internship pertain. They will carry out individual research in order to obtain answers to the research questions and participate as a member of the research team, in the departmental and/or laboratory consultations and in the work discussions. This research project includes the execution of the research itself, keeping up-to-date with literature and reporting of the results, both written and orally. For students with a bachelor in biomedical sciences or equivalent with a bachelor internship of 16 weeks, it is allowed to shorten JRP-II Health to 29 ects (minimal length) and use the remaining ects in the elective area.
Course objectives
Students:
gain advanced knowledge and understanding of subject-specific aspects of the JRP II-related research field;
acquire and extend knowledge and understanding independently for their own research;
know, understand, and apply fit for purpose analytical, quantitative and/or statistical techniques in this research field;
critically analyse and consider experimental results and data from their own research and process this data;
think in multidisciplinary terms and make connections between their own research and (international) research results;.
show responsible scientific conduct through the capacity to form a balanced judgement based on consideration of relevant social, cultural, scientific or ethical aspects;.
work independently on their research in order to show overall control of their project and to assess how their own research can contribute to the biomedical sciences field and to society;
critically analyse medical data and integrate these data in their own research;
formulate scientific questions/objectives in such a way that useful experiments can be designed of which the results will not only extend knowledge but preferably also contribute to solving problem(s) that is/are relevant to research and society;
estimate the value and applicability of laboratory- and/or data-based results obtained within the context of their own research
clearly communicate conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underlying these conclusions, to specialist and non-specialist audiences;
defend and debate their own position regarding their own research;
show awareness of recent and possible upcoming developments in the JRP-II related research field in discussing future possibilities in their own research;
adopt a professional and critical attitude;
reflect on their own actions as well as on the actions and judgements of others, and assimilate these to improve their own product, approach and conduct;
reflect on their development and points for improvement before the start and during the internship, based on the feedback received in the midterm and final evaluations (part of Career orientation);
make a conscious choice in favour of a possible further specialist training or a position in the job market.

Mode of instruction
Research internship, including individual preparation and conduct of a research project (design, lab or other analyses, collection and interpretation of data/outcomes, generation of ideas for further research). At the end of the internship, students must present and document their results both in a written report and by an oral presentation for the department. Following the internship, students will also present their results in an oral presentation to a lay audience during the graduation ceremony.
Assessment method
Students are assessed on the following aspects:
Project activities (knowledge, skills, independence, originality, scientific quality, social skills, motivation)
Written report (scientific content; scientific writing skills)
Oral presentation (content/structure, presentation skills)
Twelve weeks after the internship has begun, the project coordinator and the daily supervisor fill in the midterm assessment form (formative assessment, available on-line in Kl-app) and discuss this with the student. Together they define the students’ strong points and points for improvement. The student also provides feedback to the project coordinator/daily supervisor. The midterm assessment form is based on the final assessment form and discusses the project activities. Guidelines for a successful internship are provided with the application form of the internship via Kl-app and Brightspace.
JRP-II Health needs to be approved beforehand by the Master’s Internship Committee . Therefore, please send in an application form at least four weeks before the foreseen start of your project via Kl-app. JRP-II Health is subject to the Procedures Training Periods/Research Projects. These regulations require detailed written agreements in the application form between project coordinator and student, that specify the conditions for the Research Project. Please consult these regulations beforehand via Kl-app or Brightspace, and act accordingly.
