Admission requirements

There are no specific admission criteria. But, in view of the final attainment levels envisaged, minors are most suitable for third-year bachelor's students.

Description

The Methods of Qualitative Research course familiarizes students with different qualitative research methods, such as participant observation, in-depth interviews, visual and online ethnography. Weekly practical assignments serve as step-by-step preparation for the students' own research projects. During the module "Research Design," students learn to formulate their own research projects and draft a coherent research proposal: formulating a research question, planning the research, using theories and concepts, and relating their research to existing knowledge.

Course objectives

  • Acquiring qualitative research methods skills.

  • Learning how to design and plan a research project.

  • Developing a critical understanding of the relevant body of literature on ethnographic research.

  • Developing generic skills, including research, analysis, critical thinking, and oral presentation skills.

  • Critically engaging with ethnographic literature on/in Morocco.

  • Developing writing skills.

Weighing

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.

  • Weekly assignments & Skoura report: 40%

  • Research proposal: 40%

  • Participation & attendance: 20%

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average. To pass the course, the weighted average of the partial grades must be 5.5 or higher.

Resit

If the final grade is below 5.5, the students have to revise the research proposal based on feedback.

Exam review

If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will be organized.
