Admission requirements

There are no specific admission criteria. But, in view of the final attainment levels envisaged, minors are most suitable for third-year bachelor's students.

Description

The aim of this course is to familiarise students with Moroccan Arabic (Darija), the spoken dialect of Morocco. The course provides students with basic grammar and vocabulary in order to practice their speaking skills in Moroccan Arabic. Theory and exercises are taken from Marokkaans Arabisch, een cursus voor zelfstudie en klassikaal gebruik by Jan Hoogland which is the handbook for this course.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Recognize and use Hoogland’s transcription of Moroccan Arabic accurately.
2. Interact appropriately with men and women and ask and answer questions involving personal information (names, family members, likes & dislikes, nationalities, cities, professions, and marital status).
3. Involve in conversations to meet persnal needs (e.g., buying groceries and clothes, renting a house, etc.) using bargaining tactics when appropriate.

Weighing

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average. To pass the course, the weighted average of the partial grades must be 5.5 or higher.

Resit

If the final grade is 5.5 or less students may take a resit once (100%).

Exam Review

If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will be organized.
