Admission requirements

Students must pass Production 2a to participate in Production 2b.

This course is only in block 3 and is followed by Production 2c in block 4 (students going to Japan follow an alternative program).

Description

Production 2b is designed for students who have completed a pre-intermediate level of Japanese course. The primary goal of this course is to improve communication skills to conduct practical conversations —including the ability to determine the level of speech, state opinions, give explanations, and provide a short speech—and listening skills to pick up various types of information. To achieve this goal, students will also learn grammar, vocabulary, and kanji at the intermediate level, which is also vital to continue their studies at the advanced level. This course will cover Lessons 6 through 8 of the “Tobira” Textbook.

At the end of the course, students will be expected to perform sufficiently in speaking and listening skills at a basic level of proficiency, which is equivalent to B1+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR).

Course objectives

By the end of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following objectives. ・Write an essay in Japanese about your familiar topic with explicit and purposeful content using ample examples to support your central idea--> Written Communication ・Demonstrates a keen understanding of the target audience and use appropriate vocabulary, language, and tone to address the audience while giving a presentation in Japanese --> Oral Communication ・For the essay and presentation, read and produce kanji and vocabulary covered at the intermediate level →Writren Communication, Oral Communication

Weighing

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.

To pass the course, you must meet the following two requirements.
1) The weighted average of all elements must be 5.5 or higher
2) The average grade for kanji quizzes must be 5.5 or higher.
