Admission requirements

This course is only accessible for BA Japanstudies students. Students must have successfully completed the course Practising Japanese Studies.

Description

This course is a developmental version of Practising Japanese Studies Component 1 (Business Japanese) and will be offered every other week for 2 hours for a total of 6 lessons.

Through internship activities and course materials, students will learn practical Japanese used in business situations. Then, through discussion of Japanese workplace case studies, students will deepen their understanding of Japanese customs that they should be aware of when considering employment with a Japanese company or doing business with Japanese people.

Course objectives

The primary objective of this course is to understand the practical Japanese used in the workplace, along with Japanese business customs and ideas.

Students are expected to gain a deeper and more practical understanding of the content of Practising Japanese Studies Component 1 (Business Japanese), so that by the end of this course they will have a greater understanding of business Japanese and Japanese customs than they had in Practising Japanese Studies Component 1 (Business Japanese).

Assessment and weighing

  1. Participation (pass/fail)
  2. Final written assignment (100%)
    To pass the course, the final written assignment must have a minimum score of 5.50 (= 6 points).

Resit

  1. There is no resit possibility for the ‘participation’ element. Students who will attend less than 4 sessions OF EACH SESSION will fail the course.
  2. A score of 5.50 or higher will be considered passing for the final written assignment; if the score is 5.49 or lower, the student may resubmit the final written assignment once with the instructor's guidance. The grade for the resit will be given for this final written assignment which is resubmitted.

Inspection and feedback

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
