Admission requirements

  • This course is only open to students in the Persian track who – upon written request – were granted access by the Board of Examiners to the Shadow Programme.

  • Intermediate Persian, Modern Persian Texts.

Description

This course builds on the language skills acquired in the Intermediate Persian course. The course will allow students to engage with the Persian language and culture and allow them to develop their language skills further. While the emphasis of the course will be on reading and writing skills, other language skills will also be addressed. In addition to complex Persian syntax, the knowledge of vocabulary will be expanded through writing and translation exercises. The course will also allow students to engage with both classical and modern texts in Persian. The course will also guide the students to be able to use Persian academic sources for their research in the various fields.

Course objectives

Upon the completion of the course, students will achieve B2 level of Persian. They will be able to read and understand Persian texts on a range of topics and analyse and translate these texts. Students will acquire thorough knowledge of technical vocabularies and expressions in a range of contexts. Moreover, students will be able to produce consistent and coherent academic written texts by applying their knowledge of the Persian language. Finally, students will be able to apply their language skills in order to become more autonomous learners and develop their skills further.

Written exam with short open questions and essay question.
Presentation.

Weighing

Presentation: 20%
Final written exam: 80%

Resit

There is no resit for the presentation, only for the written exam, which will count 80%.

Inspection and feedback

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
