The mentoring sessions are a compulsory part of the first year (propaedeuse) in the BA English Language and Culture.
Description
The first-year BA English mentor programme consists of various types of meetings, the focus of which will be to offer guidance in effective study. In a small group of students from your new study, you will work with a higher year student mentor. In principle, you will attend eight mentoring sessions in the first semester and four in the second semester. You are expected to participate in all mentorship sessions.
The topics covered include the following:
Practical information on the degree programme
Etiquette
Effective study and exam preparation
Introduction and usage of different facilities (University Library, Brightspace, uSis, MyStudyMap)
Giving constructive feedback
Reflecting on your progress and setting new goals
Avoiding plagiarism and fraud
Career orientation Some social activities are also part of these meetings.
We expect that by participating in the mentoring sessions, you will quickly find your way around the university, feel at home and make a good start to the first year of your new study programme.
Course objectives
This is not an academic course for credits, but an activity offering students guidance in their studies; as such there are no specific objectives beyond giving guidance.
