Description

The course Governance of Health and Care explores how healthcare systems are organized, regulated, and steered to promote sustainable health outcomes. As health challenges become increasingly complex - ranging from demographic change and chronic disease to pandemics and climate-related risks - effective governance is essential at local, national, and global levels.

Course subjects:

  • Foundations of Healthcare governance

  • Levels of governance

  • Stakeholders and institutional actors

  • Network governance and collaboration

  • Participation and community engagement

The course combines theoretical and practice-oriented materials, including:

  • Academic literature on healthcare governance, sustainability, and network governance

  • Case studies (national reforms, international health coordination, One Health initiatives)

  • Lecture slides

  • Group exercises and applied policy analysis tasks

Course objectives

The learning goals are:
1. Students understand the concept of healthcare governance and sustainable development.
2. Students apply the concept of healthcare governance to the study of One Health’s and Sustainability’s institutional actors and strategies.
3. Students analyze major domestic and international challenges to healthcare governance and sustainability.

Assessment: paper (50%) & final presentation (50%)

The final grade is established by the weighted average and is graded as either a fail or a pass.

Registration

30 EC minor

You can enroll for the complete minor through EduXChange, registration is open from 19 May to 30 June. The minimum number of students for the minor is 12.

15 EC minor
This minor is also open as a 15 EC minor for LUMC students. You can apply for the 15 EC minor through the regular half minor procedure communicated on Brightspace. This information is subject to change, but this will change 15 April at the latest. The minimum number of students for the minor is 12.
