The manifold uses, values and functions of collections for research will be demonstrated, as well as the (international) rules and regulations for collecting and transporting collections and other biological material. The various ways of collecting, manipulating and maintaining collections of different taxonomic groups will be shown and practiced. A substantial part of the course is devoted to data basing and data mining of collections information, and electronic presentations of systematic information.
