Natural Products I

Structure: Compare various textbooks on Pharmacognosy and Natural Products. What is the general set-up of the books. E.g. based on biosynthetic approach, plant systematic approach or activity based approach. What is the major focus, how much in depth do they go for the various topics. Is it easy to find the general information? Do all books cover the same topics? Are there any topics missing? Do you understand all? What set-up do you like best? Is it suitable as textbook to learn things or is more like an encyclopedia?

Examination

A written evaluation of the books. A series of questions for which the student should give their personal view, and for which information can be found in the books.

Based on this analysis give the general outline for a book and a chapter of this book that in your opinion would be the ideal for teaching pharmacognosy.

Course objective

To learn more about natural products and the sources for information on natural products as pharmaceuticals.
