Tutorial and discussion of current issues

Course
2008-2009

The series starts with presentations by students of their BA-theses. Subsequently have to organise a programme of sessions on current issues that they propose and prepare themselves. Guest speakers (for instance from ARCHOL), staff members or PhD’s can be invited as well. Preferably blackboard is used as a tool for of discussion as well. Of each session a short report is made that remains accessible through blackboard.

In block 2 also the start of the MA-thesis and research outlines will be discussed.

Admission requirements

<span en-gb="" lang="EN-GB" style="\"mso-ansi-language:">BA degree (or equivalent) in Archaeology or a relevant discipline. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office\" /?> </span>

Course objective

Learning to discuss and critically analysise current issues and research themes.

Learning objectives

*Knowledge of and insight in current research and debates in Prehistoric Archaeology and related disciplines; *Student is able to critically assess current research and literature, voice a well-argumented opinion and is able to handle a stimulating discussion afterwards; *Is able to participate (actively) in international debates (congress, workshops, etc.); *Learns to set up research by formulating research questions and to structure research.

Method of instruction

During the year students will attend conferences and workshops, preferably also abroad, and report on them in the tutorial and on paper.
