Child Neuropsychology: Clinical Practice of Neurodevelopmental Disorders

This course provides a practical training in the clinical neuropsychological assessment of children with neuropsychological problems. Integrated diagnostic skills are built up by training:

  • practical skills

  • testing

  • scoring and interpretation of test data

  • demonstration and use of the various diagnostic tools

  • practical training in anamnesis and social-interactive skills (with parents, children)

  • report writing

  • testing children at their homes.

Casuistic material will be used to introduce the various psycho-diagnostic problem domains to the student. The course consists of 7 seminars.

Aims

Students will be able to conduct individual case studies of neurodevelopmental disorders and report these findings through oral and written reports. This will be achieved through attendance and participation in the practicals and through self-directed study.

Examination

  • Sufficient completion of several neuropsychological assessment tasks.

  • Written neuropsychological report.

  • Written reports on casuistic material.

Requirement(s) for application or advice

Master student of Clinical Neuropsychology, having participated in the master course Child Neuropsychology: theory and assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Education method(s)

Experiential training with patient videos and casus demonstrations. The students follow the seminars and attend small group meetings to practice diagnostic skills. The students are required to test children in practice and prepare their individually written reports and group products. Attendance to all seminars is obligatory.

Enrolment

Introduction and enrolment for courses of the first semester will take place August 27th 2009. Introduction and enrolment for courses of the second semester will take place in January 2010. More information will be available at the website of the Institute of Psychology.

NB: Exam and re-exam registration will take place via U-Twist, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who haven’t registered, cannot participate in the (re)exam.
