This course is concerned with the evaluation of cognitive models of emotional disorders, including panic disorder, generalized anxiety, social anxiety and depression. One main aim is to review cognitive factors that play a critical role in causing or maintaining dysfunctional emotional states. The course reviews recent cognitive models of anxiety and depression. The topics include:
automatic and controlled processing of emotional information
selective attention
memory
reasoning
thought processes
and behaviour.
The course also covers the research methods commonly employed to study these phenomena, and recent therapeutic innovations based on this research.
Note:
This course is a mandatory course for students who will started the MSc Clinical in February 2009 or later. Students who have started their MSc Clinical in September 2008 can take ECP as an elective. Please note however, that there is a limited number of places for ECP. If there are more applicants than places, priority will be given to students for whom the course is mandatory.

Enrolment
Introduction and enrolment for courses of the first semester will take place August 27th 2009. Introduction and enrolment for courses of the second semester will take place in January 2010. More information will be available at the website of the Institute of Psychology.
NB: Exam registration will take place via U-Twist, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who haven’t registered, cannot participate in the exam.
