Experimentation II: Neuroscientific Research Methods

In this course, students will receive an introduction into various psychophysiological and brain-imaging techniques (EEG, ERP, Heart rate, fMRI), and other biological techniques subserving psychology (behavioral genetics, psychopharmacology). In the practical part of the course, they will acquire hands-on experience in collecting and analyzing ERP data.

Aim(s)

This course is intended to provide sufficient introduction into neuroscientific research methods to understand and appreciate literature that applies these methods. After this course the student can acquire and analyze ERP with little supervision.

From January 1, 2006 the Faculty of Social Sciences has instituted the Ephorus system to be used by instructors for the systematic detection of plagiarism in students’ written work. Please see the Additional Rules and Regulations, section 6.

Education method(s)

  • 7 lectures

  • 4 practical exercises.
    Note: students are assigned to subgroups. Every student will only follow 2 data acquisition and 2 data analysis meetings.

Application

Introduction and enrollment for courses of the first semester will take place August 27th 2009. Introduction and enrollment for courses of the second semester will take place in January 2010. More information will be available at the website of the Department of Psychology.

NB: Exam and re-exam registration will take place via U-Twist, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who don’t register, cannot participate in the (re)exam.
