SAP and exchange students: admission after approval by the Graduate School of Archaeology.
Description
Everyone knows about the barrow landscapes of the Late Neolithic and Bronze Age, but it is very hard to find out were the roots lay for this and other European wide traditions in burial practices. The seminar involves (probably in small teams) research of literature (how is your Czeckish?) with a specific assignment. The combined research papers together form a coherent outlook on the research questions that we set for this seminar.
Learning objectives
Knowledge of barrow landscapes from the Late Neolithic in a European context
Ability to apply theoretical, interpretative approaches to data of prehistoric archaeology;
Ability to process archaeological research data into accessible information which can be interpreted;
Ability to critically assess different presentations;
Ability to conduct scientific background research.
Method of instruction
After a formal lecture, the students will get an assignment to research a particular theme or region. The results will be presented to the group and eventually as a short research paper.
Examination
Assessment is based on the oral presentations and on the written paper.
