Archaeometry

Course
2009-2010

The application of newly developed archaeometrical techniques. These techniques, developed by physicists, chemists or biologists, play a crucial role in the reconstruction of migration patterns, palaeo-diet and genetic relationships. Various methods will be presented by coordinators and invited teachers, and the application and restrictions will be discussed. These include advanced methods in isotopes, dating techniques, ancient DNA, and various applications of materials science.

Learning objectives

  • Insight into modern science techniques applicable in Archaeological research, like isotopes, dating techniques, ancient DNA, etc.

  • Insight into the application and restrictions of archaeometrical techniques.

  • Insight into the role of archaeometrical techniques in the reconstruction of migration patterns, palaeo-diet and genetic relationships.
