The ability to place Hebrew and Aramaic grammar within their linguistic setting, gaining a thorough grasp of the characteristic traits of various historical stages of these languages, and acquiring a sound working knowledge of relevant approaches currently practised in Historical Linguistics. This course provides students not only with an insight into the development of both Hebrew and Aramaic as separate languages, but also into their mutual realtionship throughout their long attested history. Special attention, however, can be paid to either Hebrew or Aramaic, depending on the interests of the participants.
