Description:
Series of obligatory lectures provided by invited specialist speakers on the following signal transduction topics: G-protein coupled receptors; Tyrosine kinase receptors; Steroid receptors; MAPK signaling; Signaling pathways in development: Wnt, SMAD/ TGF beta, Notch/NF-KB; Role of signaling in cancer and immunity; Single molecule imaging of signaling events in living cells.

Study material:
Alberts et al, Molecular Biology of the Cell, 4th edition 2002, Garland Science NY and additional literature required for the own power point presentation on a chosen signal transduction topic.

Examination:
1. PowerPoint presentation
2. Writing examination requested knowledge of lectures and following pages from Alberts: 831-889, 907-929, 1340-1361, and 1453-1462.

Course requirements/recommendations:
Elementary knowledge of Molecular Biology

  • Course can be also followed as MSC course for biology, LST, BFW students
