Seminar in African Literature: African Films: Negotiating Nationalism and Identity

Course
2009-2010

This course aims at discussing identity constructions in the intertextual dialogue (and sometimes conflict) of past and present ‘stories’ retold or implicated as background in African films. The course will illustrate continuity and distance between the celebration of Africa on the eve of independence and more recent filmic perspectives and themes on African realities. The module is given by a short presentation (15 minutes), watching the film, pause, 30 minutes presentation/discussion.
