Tashelhiyt is the Berber language spoken in Southern Morocco by several million people. It is among the few Berber languages with a longstanding written literature and it is well-known for its sublime oral poetry.
The course aims at giving a grammatical overview, followed by the reading of texts. the course is not a conversation course and doe snot aim at fluency in the language
Students of the MPhil Middle Eastern Studies are obliged to also take course MES 507B (Tashelhiyt Assignment) to meet the requirements of the program.
