  • You will be able to describe the roles of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, and man in the pathogenesis and signs and symptoms of infectious diseases.

  • You will be able to identify the diagnostic principles of infectious diseases and apply these to simple infection problems.

  • You will be able to identify the principles of treatment of infectious diseases and apply these to simple infection problems.

  • You will be able to explain epidemiological terms and apply these to simple epidemiological problems.

  • You will be able to give examples of infection prevention and control measures.

This module focuses on characteristics of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, which cause infectious diseases, on the interaction between micro-organisms and men, and on the principles of diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of infectious diseases.
