In this tutorial, attention will be devoted to the art and architecture of the diverse Christian communities in the Middle East. The art of wall painting and icons will be examined not only as regards style and iconography, but also within the framework of the religious architecture and the ritual in which they function. Much attention will be devoted to monasteries and their culture. The research carried out by Leiden in Egypt and Syria in this field plays an important role in this.
