BA Art History, History
Description
This seminar provides a grounding in current museum theory and will also examine contemporary museums through the lens of cultural politics. We will examine such topics as museums as social systems, cultural patrimony in the age of globalism, the ethics of collecting and display. Scholars and museum professionals will provide guest lectures. Students will write a research paper and the class will make a field trip (studiereis) to Munich or London.
Course objectives
- Students should have an overview of Michelangelo’s output as an architect, painter and sculptor; to understand his stylistic and chronological development; to understand the relations between his various activities and the art-historical issues these raise; – Students should know the main current views on Michelangelo’s work, grasp their underlying assumptions, and be able to apply current methods to analyse his work – Students should be able to analyse his work
