Description

The course aims to get students acquainted with the practice of empirical research. Articles are examined in detail to assess their organisation and execution both with respect to the methodological design and the statistical analysis of their results. Students will have to write a methodological review of a paper and write a research paper based on an existing data set.

Course objectives

Achievement levels: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17.

Mode of instruction

  • Seven lectures

  • Six tutorial sessions in which empirical research papers are examined (attendance obligatory)

  • Seven computer lab sessions (attendance obligatory)

Assessment method

Grades are based on the research paper.

A detailed Student Manual will be available in August. Additional materials will be available on the Blackboard site of the course.

Registration

Please note that separate uSis registration is mandatory for lectures, seminars, exam and re-exam.

  • Registration for the lectures of the course is possible as of two months through one week before the first lecture at the latest;

  • Registration for the seminars of the course is possible as of two months through one week before the first lecture at the latest;

  • Registration for the exam is possible as of two months through one week before the exam at the latest;

  • Registration for the re-exam is possible as of two months through one week before the re-exam at the latest.
    Students who don’t register cannot attend classes or take the (re)exam.
