Admission requirements
Admission to MA or RMA programme.
Description
This course revolves around the application of newly developed archaeometrical techniques. These techniques, developed by physicists, chemists or biologists, play a crucial role in the reconstruction of migration patterns, palaeo-diet and genetic relationships. Various methods will be presented by coordinators and individual teachers, and the application and restrictions will be discussed. These include advanced methods in isotopes, dating techniques, ancient DNA, and various applications for materials sciences.
Course objectives
Insight into modern science techniques applicable in archaeological research, like isotopes, dating techniques, ancient DNA, degradation, etc.;
Insight into the application and restrictions of archaeometrical techniques in the reconstruction of migration patterns, palaeo-diet and genetic relationships.
