Description
The aim of this course is to examine primary source material, both archaeological and historical: data reports, programmes of requirements and public presentations. By actively dealing with the raw material the research themes addressed in the previous course will be connected with practical infrastructure of the archaeological field.
An example of an assignment topic would be to what extent do Malta-reports deliver useful and useable information?
Short background: The absence of an external quality assurance and review system has led some to doubt the quality of the reports that are written under the aegis of Malta dictated archaeological rescue. A way to find out is to read them carefully and critically review the data.
Choose an important and frequently found archaeological structure or feature, such as houses, cesspits, wells or elevations layers; select a number of relevant reports and try to extract from them the main characteristics of your structure. To what extent are the available data useable and what is your view about their quality?
