Admission requirements

Students who have finished all requirements of MA1.

Description

In this course the student will learn how to write social letters properly and effectively in Japanese by applying Honorifics. Coursework includes writing assignments, followed by feedback from the instructor as well as peer-revision in class. In addition to letter writing, students are requested to write an outline and a summary of the initial hypotheses and findings of their MA thesis. The summary will be included in the thesis as a Japanese language abstract.

Course objectives

  • have a good command of Honorifics – write letters properly and effectively, taking social aspects into consideration – study the structure of letters, grammar of written Japanese, sentence style and writing style

NB: Minimum attendance requirement: 70% of the entire course
Attendance: 10%
Assignments during the course: 40%
Written exam at the end of the course: 50%
