Description
This is an individual course. It offers an opportunity to linguistics students to carry out their own linguistic fieldwork in a language of their choice. If you are interested in doing this course, first follow the electives mentioned above (Admission requirements). Then find a supervisor who is familiar with the language, the language family and/or the area where you would like to work, and discuss your plans with him/her. The amount of time spent on preparations, fieldwork, and writing the report should be minimally the equivalent of 5 ects.
Course objectives
Preparations: Study existing descriptions of the language of choice or related languages, organise funding, travel, accomodation. Fieldwork: build a network of consultants and collect primary language data through work with native speakers in a natural setting. Organise linguistic data in a structured database. Write a report.
