Propedeuse Archeologie (1st year) obtained.


This course illustrates the application of Archaeology Theory through lectures where case-studies from diverse periods and regions are presented. Class debate is a major part of each session.

Course objectives

  • Awareness of the practical problems of applying theory in archaeological practice;

  • Ability to compare and contrast different solutions in diverse regional contexts to theoretical issues;

  • Learning to be critical and self-confident in debating theory.

Ects distribution

The course load will be distributed as follows:

  • 7×2 hours of lecture;

  • 280 pages of literature;

  • Reviews.

Mode of instruction


Assessment method

Critical review (min. 500 words) of each lecture in the course.

Assessment deadline

Reviews are submitted one week after each lecture.

Reading list

Issued separately for each lecture.
