BA degree (or equivalent) in Archaeology or a relevant discipline.

Description

A field trip is organised to sites in the Netherlands that aims to discuss the origins, continued use and constant re-articulation of monumental landscapes. The relation between location and setting in the physical landscape is emphasised during this field trip.
All participants write papers as preparation of the field trip that together form a comprehensive excursion guide. In preparation of the field trip, students will prepare papers under supervision of prof. Fokkens and RMA-students who co-organise the trip.
The field trip will take place from 27 May-1 June 2013.

Course objectives

  • Knowledge of how to organise a field trip for a group of people (protocol);

  • Advanced knowledge of particular archaeological landscapes;

  • Ability to make an analysis of sites and monuments in their physical and social contexts;

  • Ability to read and interpret archaeological landscapes in the field;

  • Advanced knowledge of research practices in international context;

  • Ability to work in a team.

Ects distribution

The course load will be distributed as follows:

  • Excursion;

  • 280 pages of literature;

  • Assignment.
