Adult and Old-Age Clinical Neuropsychology: Theory and Assessment


Admission requirements

This course is an advanced course in clinical neuropsychology on a master’s level.
Prior knowledge is assumed on a level of the Bachelor 3 course Clinical Neuropsychology


This course provides theoretical foundations in the clinical neuropsychological assessment and diagnostic work-up of cognitive, emotional and/or behavioural consequences as result of (possible) neurological or psychiatric disease in adult and elderly patients. All instructors are (clinical) neuropsychologists working in the (academic) health service and will contribute most of the teaching, with input from a neurologist.

The course involves 7 lectures (2 hrs) addressing the following content domains:

  • General principles of clinical neuropsychology

  • Functional Neuroanatomy

  • Dementias

  • Brain Damage

  • Movement Disorders

  • Neuropsychiatric Disorders

  • Neuropharmacology

Course objectives

Students should obtain a detailed understanding of the affective, behavioural and cognitive manifestations of diseases of the central nervous system, particularly those affecting the brain, in adults and elderly people.

Mode of instruction

7 Lectures. Attendance to all meetings is obligatory.

Assessment method

Active participation in the course, written exam (MC and essay questions).

Exam registration

Students must register for each examination. Students, who haven’t registered, cannot participate in an exam
