Description

This course focuses on the concepts of cultural identity and how that is constructed. The course is centered around themes that are central to NWO research projects of the European Prehistory chair group.
Analysis of settlements, burial ritual and hoards form the basis for discussions, papers and presentations.

Course objectives

  • Detailed knowledge of the period, region, research problems, recent literature and current issues under consideration;

  • Knowledge of and insight in setting up, structuring and executing of scientific research projects;

  • Critical assessment of current research with respect to applicability and background;

  • Voice one’s well-argumented opinion on these topics;

  • Insight in the applicability of theoretical models on data;

  • Oral presentation of research.

Ects distribution

The course load will be distributed as follows:

  • 7×2 hours of tutorials;

  • 280 pages of literature;

  • Papers.

Mode of instruction

Presentations and discussions with regard to research projects and recent articles by staff members, students and PhD-candidates. If possible, gues lectures will be given.

Assessment method

  • Performance in class (discussion, presentation);

  • Written discussion papers.
