Some knowledge of Indo-European linguistics and reading proficiency in German

Description

We shall be reading a set of articles dedicated to various problems of Indo-European reconstruction, paying attention not only to the validity of argumentation, but also to the formal organisation of the articles: how the facts are presented, how the points are argued, the references, the footnotes, etc.

Course objectives

The main objective of the course to teach students how to critically read scientific publications and how to write them.

2-hour weekly seminar

Assessment method

A paper with a review of one of the discussed articles (ca. 3-5 pages). MA students will write a paper containing a critical comparison of two different approaches to a problem of Indo-European reconstruction.
