Cognitive Neuroscience of Language

Admission requirements

Previous knowledge of cognitive neuroscience and/or psycho- and neurolinguistics is desirable.

Description

The course is about the neuroscientific processing of language comprehension and production in adult speakers (e.g. auditory and visual word recognition, reading, understanding speech, discourse comprehension, representation of word meaning, language production). It also covers damage to the linguistic processing system such as different forms of aphasia (e.g. dyslexia, anomia, etc.) and bilingualism. That is, most areas of psycho- and neurolinguistics will be touched upon, mainly from a cognitive neuroscience perspective.

Course objectives

Students with basic knowledge in psycho- and neurolinguistics should be able to extend and deepen their knowledge in the areas of language acquisition, comprehension and production, especially regarding the neuroscientific aspects of those areas.
