Admission requirements

Regular MA admission, as well as a solid knowledge of Akkadian or Sumerian.

Course description

A coherent group of cuneiform texts centering on a literary, historical, religious or economic aspect and its relevant secondary literature are studied by the student and discussed with the supervisor during four sessions.

Course objectives

Students gain an insight into the relevance of particular sources for the reconstruction of society, in which support is gained not only from textual data but also from the archaeological data examined.

Mode of instruction

The student makes transliterations and translations of a group of texts and discusses the findings with the supervisor during four meetings.

Assessment method

The final grade of this course will be composed of the following elements:

  • Four papers containing a critical discussion of the texts and literature studied (25%).

  • A paper (75%)
