Description

The seminar is organised around ongoing research of the staff members. The students participate in all aspects ranging from the development of the research design to the collection of data and the preparation of a publication.
This course can also involve participation in conferences abroad, visits to monumental landscapes or participation in a workshop. The aim is to learn how research in an international setting is conducted.

Course objectives

  • Detailed knowledge of the period, region, research problems, recent literature and current issues under consideration;

  • Knowledge of and insight in setting up, structuring and executing of scientific research projects;

  • Insight in how high-ranking research is conducted;

  • Critical assessment of current research with respect to applicability and background;

  • Voice one’s well-argumented opinion on these topics;

  • Ability to design and conduct research;

  • Gaining new knowledge;

  • Insight in the applicability of theoretical models on data;

  • Oral presentation of research;

  • Development of well argumented texts on research;

  • Critical review of one‘s own research and that of fellow students in a constructive manner.

Ects distribution

The course load will be distributed as follows:

  • 28 hours of lectures (2 ects);

  • 240 pages of literature (2 ects);

  • Research (6 ects).

Assessment method

  • Discussion (20%);

  • Research papers (60%);

  • Presentations (20%).
