Description

This course aims to develop students’ oral and written communication skills combined with the study of a selection of Brazilian films. Thus, Brazilian cinema provides the entry point into issues relating to Brazil today. A discussion on cultural trends and topics concerning Brazilian society are integrated into language learning through an interactive programme of language acquisition.

Course objectives

This course covers four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Course-book and other additional, including authentic, materials will be used in the development of communication skills through practical written and oral exercises (individual and group-based).

Course load

Total courseload for this course is 5 ects (= 140 hrs). Out of this, there 4 contact hours x week.

Assessment method

Written assessments: total of 75% of mark.
Oral assessment: 25% of mark.

Written assessments: class test 40mins 20% of mark; written assignment 15%; final 1h exam 40% (tests include linguistic exercises – eg. fill-the-gap exercises – and written comprehension or short composition).
Oral assessment 25% of mark (short presentation and question/answer session).

Resit for relevant component: written exam/oral.
