Report and Presentation-bl2*

Course
2014-2015

Admission requirements

This course will be offered in Blocks 2 and 3. Research Masters’ students are required to enroll in the Block 2 version as the content, format, and assessments given in Block 2 are designed specifically for Research Masters’ students. The Block 2 version is open to non-Research Masters’ students, but there will be only one set of assessments for all students (regardless of program). Thus non-Research Masters’ students are strongly advised to take the Block 3 version of the course, in which content, format, and assessments will be designed for them.

Description

The aim of this course is to develop and increase the students’ skills in presenting scientific findings in English, both in the form of a written text and as a formal presentation. The emphasis of the course is not so much on grammatically correct use of English, but rather on clear, effective reader- and audience-friendly communication.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop research writing skills for academic English writing

  • Understand the conventions for presenting written research reports in both the qualitative and quantitative traditions

  • Learn and understand the institute’s plagiarism and academic dishonesty policy

  • Improve oral presentation skills through scientific conference-style presentation sessions
