Advanced Psychodiagnostics in Children and Adolescents

Entry requirements

  • Master’s students Psychology with specialisation Child and Adolescent Psychology.

  • Completion of the course is necessary to start with the internship.

Description

This course provides education and training in the psycho diagnostic assessment of children with cognitive and social-emotional problems. It builds upon the courses Psycho-diagnostics and Psychometrics. This course focuses on the integration of information from the child’s different contexts (at least home and school contexts) during the diagnostic assessment, by emphasizing the different stages in the psychodiagnostic process:

  • Intake/ interview

  • Developing hypotheses

  • Selecting criteria and materials (tests, questionnaires, observations etc.) for hypothesis testing

  • Testing the child

  • Integrating the data

Integrated diagnostic skills will be developed through:

  • Training practical skills

  • Practise of hypothesis development by means of discussion of cases and writing reports

  • Scoring and interpretation of test data

  • Demonstration and use of the various diagnostic tools

  • Practise of information collection through observation of the child in one of the contexts

  • Practical training in anamnesis and social-interactive skills (with parents, children)

  • Report writing

Students will be given the opportunity to experience the diagnostic process through participation in and observation of various diagnostic activities.

Course objectives

  • Students will acquire advanced knowledge of the psycho diagnostic process.

  • Students will acquire skills necessary for various stages in the diagnostic process (from intake to integration of findings).

  • Students will learn to write a hypothesis driven psycho diagnostic report.

Course

Students need to enroll for lectures and work group sessions.
Master’s course registration

Examination

Students are not automatically enrolled for an examination. They can register via uSis from 100 to 10 calendar days before the date. Students who are not registered will not be permitted to take the examination.

  • 9 Plenary lectures

  • 8 (Smaller) work group sessions

Assessment method

  • Verbal examinations, integration of theory and practice.

  • Written case reports
