Description

Activities in cyberspace always have a legal dimension. This entails that a comprehensive understanding of cyber security issues requires basic knowledge and understanding of how legal rights and constraints currently operate in cyberspace, and where necessary, how legal regulation can be implemented so that core human values may flourish in the digital domain. This includes (1) basic knowledge of the functions of law and its institutional arrangements within Dutch society, in the EU and on a global scale; (2) basic knowledge of the national and international legal systems involved in cyber security issues; (3) knowledge of the legal frameworks and key provisions with respect to core themes such as privacy/data protection and cybercrime; (4) basic knowledge of the legal frameworks and key provisions with respect to relevant themes such as intellectual property, e-commerce, information security and trusted third parties; and (5) a firm understanding of the intricacies of balancing different, potentially clashing interests such as freedom of information (including the right to open data) and the right to privacy as these arise in the global sphere of cyberspace.
