Beschrijving

The iGEM Foundation is dedicated to education and competition, advancement of synthetic biology, and the development of open community and collaboration. The main program at the iGEM Foundation is the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition, which is the premiere student competition in Synthetic Biology. Since 2004, participants of the competition have experienced education, teamwork, sharing, and more in a unique competition setting. This competition aims to build biological systems from standard, interchangeable parts and operate them in living cells. However, iGEM is much more than a competition; the iGEM community has a long history of involving students and the public in the development of the new field of synthetic biology.

Commencing in this academic year, Leiden will participate in iGEM with a team built around highly enthusiastic and bright honors students. This team will represent our University in Boston, USA at the annual Jamboree in September 2016.

If you are a creative and highly-motivated student that is passionate about the possibilities of synthetic biology, we invite you to attend an informal meeting on October 26th, at 17.30 in lecture room C06 (Gorlaeus building) during which more information will be provided to prospective students.
